The new US skittles site is not a typical consumer goods site but instead draws on content created by fans of the sweets to populate the site they are viewing. Reflecting skittles core brand beliefs of expecting the unexpected and unleashing the rainbow of possibilities — when users first arrive at Skittles.com they may be surprised at the content before them.
An overlay hovers over the content informing the user that it is not a mistake and that they are at the right destination for Skittles.com. The overlay houses the navigation for the site, which will lead to content pulled from Wikipedia, YouTube, Facebook, Flickr and Twitter, all without leaving Skittles.com.
Clever (and cost effective) idea I reckon.
